We are Altra, a brand of passionate runners and movers creating a product that we use daily and are enthusiastic about inspiring the world to move naturally.  We were founded in the back room of a specialty running store in the Wasatch Mountains with the goal of helping people run more naturally and injury-free, and that is what continues to drive us today.  
While working in the store, our founders noticed that despite the range of running shoes in the market and technological advances in footwear, running-related injuries seemed to be increasing. After researching and testing thousands of trail running shoes, they discovered an opportunity to disrupt the marketplace and offer an alternative to the conventional, industry-standard tapered toe box and elevated heel. As a result, the brand was founded with natural performance in mind that encompasses Balanced Cushioning, a FootShape™ toe box, and gender-specific designs.

Most running shoes feature elevated heels that promote poor form by encouraging high-impact overstriding. You were born without an elevated heel and Altra allows you to maintain a natural foot position throughout your run. Every Altra shoe features a Zero Drop platform that places the heel and the forefoot the same distance from the ground. This naturally aligns the feet, back and body posture and encourages a low impact landing.

Traditional running shoes feature pointy toe boxes that squeeze the toes out of their natural position, increasing the risk of developing bunions, hammertoes and plantar fasciitis. Altra's FootShape™ toe box allows the toes to relax and spread out naturally and the big toe to remain in a straight position. This reduces over-pronation, enhances stability and creates a powerful toe-off to maximise running performance.

Women's feet are anatomically different than men's feet. Women have a narrower heel and midfoot, higher in-step, longer arch and unique metatarsal spacing. The Fir4Her™ technology means we customise every woman’s shoe to the unique shape of the female foot.
