A friend of mine told me about this amazing running shoe that she is using and tried to convince me for a couple of months. I read up about the "barefoot" movement and the benefits of it and it made complete sense. I bought the Escalante 2.5 and were so amazed by the shoe. Its is light, flexible, stretchy and enough space in the toe box for your toes to relax and spread out. It is the most comfortable and natural feeling shoe I have ever put on my feet. I have switched over to Altra as my preferred running shoe and have since bought a pair of Olympus 5 for trail and recently Escalante 3.0. When I fitted the new 3.0, I felt the newly reworked upper and it had a different feel but supper comfortable and roomy in front. I was a bit worried about the fit but as soon as I had a run in it, I felt the benefits of the structured upper. It felt amazingly comfortable and has immediately become my new favorite shoe to run in. In 2024 I will be entering the Half Ironman in Durban and the comrades the week after. Although this is a big challenge, it feels like something I can do with Altra supporting me.
I ran my second Comrades in these shoes, and managed my first ever Silver medal. My feet were very happy the whole way. In fact they were the one part of my body I didn't experience any discomfort throughout the entire race! In fact from what I can remember they were extremely comfortable on the ups and the long downs where the cushioning really did what it's supposed to do. I've realised with Altras on my feet, that I can totally trust that they will be taken care of no matter the distance, duration, or intensity of my run. They also are very quick to break in, and I'd almost be confident enough to run a long race with them straight out of the box.
